Reserve Chicks - Marans
All Maran chicks are sold as 1 day-1 week old, unsexed, $11 each. Payment due at pickup. We follow the buddy system for all chicks, therefore there is a required minimum of 2 chicks per order.
Maran Chickens are known for being a calm and quiet breed, easy to handle and good with other chickens and people. They are a medium sized docile chicken, with feathered feet and soft plumage. Marans do well in both warm and cold climates and thrive in free-range environments but also do well in confined settings. They originated in France as a dual purpose chicken known for good egg laying as well as secondary meat source. Marans lay around 150-200 dark/chocolate brown large eggs per year.
Our Maran chicks are hatched here on the farm between February through July. Reserve yours now and you can come pick them out right from our brooders once they hatch.
Available Marans:
We have selected our two favorite Marans to cross breed. Our rooster is a French Blue Copper Maran, and our hens are French Black Copper Marans. This cross produces some beautiful chickens that lay big dark brown eggs.
Once our hatch schedule is out, we will contact you with an estimated date your chicks will be hatched. We do our best to hatch as many chicks as we can, but if we cannot fulfil your order we will notify you immediately.
For biosecurity reasons we are no longer accepting rooster returns, sorry for the inconvenience.
